Hi,
I am a full time Art teacher at Fremont High School. I love my job working with teenage art students at Fremont. We have the best students in the world and I look forward to waking up in the morning and starting each day with a new idea about how to teach these students how to appreciate and create art! Fremont has some truly incredible artists and it is an honor to be their teacher.
In the summer of 2008, I completed my Masters of Integrated Arts in Education degree at the University of Montana in Missoula and I loved getting to know creative artists from all over the United States.
First and foremost though, I consider myself an artist and I love to paint. Especially Oil and Watercolor. For the last 10 years I have regularly participated in many art shows. The list is long. I have had several gallery exhibits of my work and have been selling my artwork since I was a teenager. I am a member of the Palette Club of Ogden and I am a guest artist at Gallery 25 in Ogden, Utah. I have studio space in my home and continue to work on my own artwork as much as I can.
I am passionate about art and arts education. I believe that art is a fundamental part of education, it is just as important as reading, writing and arithmetic (if not more). For all of our lives, we will be surrounded by things that are created by artists. Art is everywhere and it is something that we will use in many different ways no matter what we choose for our occupations. The many skills we learn in art classes are skills that can be carried into other aspects of our lives.
I am a board member (Past President and Webmaster) of the Utah Art Education Association and I love to share what I have learned about teaching art to my colleagues. I have been a presenter at local, state and national conferences. In March 2014, to my surprise, I was awarded the NAEA Pacific Region Art Educator of the Year award. I was very honored to receive this National award and I hope that I can be worthy of it. I am always striving to be a better art teacher and I am not afraid to try new art teaching techniques - and yes, sometimes they completely fail, but sometimes they really make a difference. I love experimenting.
I have a great family that keeps me busy and yet they are very supportive of all the things I try to do. I have been married for 33 years and I have 4 daughters, one son, four granddaughters and two grandsons. All of my children and grandchildren love art and love to create art. They had no choice:)
My life isn’t perfect, but I am very blessed and content because I am a creator of art.
